Head of Research
David is an Honorary Research Fellow in the University of Nottingham’s Department of Classics and Archaeology, with 35 years experience in professional archaeology since completing a DPhil at the University of Oxford on the subject of Iron Age settlement. He has a specialist knowledge of Bronze and Iron Age Britain, prehistoric ceramics, geoarchaeology, and the archaeology of the Trent catchment.
He has been involved recently in delivery of the East Midlands Historic Environment Research Framework and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Research Framework, study of the archaeological resource of Nottingham, an assessment of climate change impacts upon the archaeological and built environment resource of the Derwent Valley, the preparation of national guidance for deposit modelling and pottery studies in archaeology, and the development of a research framework for the study of prehistoric ceramics.
