Do you want to learn hands-on archaeology by being part of Nottingham Castle's annual excavation? Do you have a day or more free this summer? We Dig the Castle Is back for 2017 and is looking for members of the community who would like to learn archaeology by being part of a research excavation uncovering new information about the                Nottingham  Castle site.

The We Dig the Castle training excavation (17 July - 18 August) Prices for the training excavation start at just £50 per day (with a range of reductions and special offers), and people of any age over 14 can get involved. We cater for all levels of skill, experience and prior knowledge, whether you have or are working towards a qualification in archaeology, are a Time Team fan, are part of a local history or archaeoloy group group looking to expand its skills base, or just want to try something new.  We're delighted to be able to offer reductions in price at our training sessions for people who have trained with We Dig the Castle previously, students, young adults aged 14-17, and anyone who has at any time volunteered alongside TPA on a community archaeology project. Other ways to get involved in We Dig the Castle Group visits and tours - for groups of all ages and types Are you part of a history or archaeology society or a lifelong learning group? Or a social or home-schooling club? Why not book a group visit to the excavation, led by a We Dig the Castle archaeologist? Have an archaeological tour of the site, hear about past investigations and their findings, see the excavation underway and get exclusive access to the artefacts uncovered in 2017 so far. All ages, interests and levels of mobility catered for. Available 17 July - 18 August (weekdays). Book a We Dig the Castle archaeologist to speak at your group Talks include the history and archaeology of Nottingham Castle, archaeological investigations at the site, and the We Dig the Castle excavations and their discoveries. We’ll also brings finds from We Dig the Castle (talks available year round).

Free family archaeology day - Sunday 23 July The perfect opportunity for parents to discover real-life archaeology with        children of all ages. Have a dig in our trench, wash and identify finds, and sieve through the spoil looking for interesting artefacts. Find out more here    
With close tutor support and carefully designed hands-on workshops every trainee will be excavating within an hour - including absolute beginners!  Nottingham Castle's annual excavation is carefully shaped to contribute to our understanding of the Castle site while providing exciting opportunities for training.                                                        It returns for 2017 on 17 July-18 August.
